Fujitsu Satellite Navigation Module Expands Ultra-Low Power Portfolio

October 31, 2018

Fujitsu Electronics Europe (FEEU) is expanding its ultra-low power portfolio to include a multi-receiver GNSS module: MSB1054. GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System and now encompasses a variety of systems: not only GPS but also GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS, Galileo and BeiDou. The ability to receive signals from several satellite systems significantly reduces the TTFF (Time to First Fix), meaning a faster and more accurate positioning.

Beside the GNSS device itself the MSB1054 provides a built-in RF-front end (SAW filter, LNA) as well as a TCXO, so with the exception of an antenna no external component is required. Furthermore, Fujitsu’s GNSS module is equipped with a built-in Flash memory for quick “hot start”, to save the navigation data and further optimize its performance.

With its super-small dimensions of 5.8 mm x 6.2 mm x 1 mm, and only 3.4 mA current in low-power mode (tracking, e.g., Period 60 s), the MSB1054 is ideal for a variety of applications such as smart watches, fitness trackers, logistics (asset tracking and monitoring), indoor or outdoor navigation.

Various synergies arise between this module and FEEU's existing portfolio, as the Value Added Distribution Partner already offers a wide range of components and services that support the development of low-power and IoT solutions. Prominent examples include FRAM as well as Ambiq Micro's MCUs, RTCs, BLE and energy harvesting solutions.

Further information on the GNSS module, FEEU will also be presenting it at Electronica 2018, where it is exhibiting in Hall B5, Booth #117.
