VIAVI, ThinkRF Collaborate to Monitor 5G Spectrum

November 16, 2017

ThinkRF announced a collaboration with VIAVI Solutions to help mobile operators, field technicians and wireless equipment providers monitor and test 5G spectrum and devices operating at 28 GHz. Working together, ThinkRF and VIAVI created a down-converter that extends VIAVI’s existing 2G/3G/4G CellAdvisor test equipment to 5G frequencies in the range of 27 to 30 GHz.

The ThinkRF D2030 Down-Converter, designed to extend the range of all existing analyzers and test equipment into the next generation 5G spectrum, is available now. The D2030 Down-Converter features a compact design that makes it portable, versatile and easy to use for 5G analysis in any deployment scenario, without adding significant size and weight or power requirements.

Dr. Nikhil Adnani, CTO at ThinkRF, said, “The ability to monitor high frequency 5G signals is becoming a necessity, but many existing spectrum analyzers are unable to detect signals in these bands of the future, Leveraging our highly optimizable, software-defined radio technologies, we created a platform that is portable, versatile and easy to use, so users can extend existing spectrum analysis equipment to cover 5G waveforms. We are proud to be working with VIAVI and reshaping the spectrum analysis market, yet again, whilst extending the ThinkRF offering into 5G.”

Jim Neuens, the marketing director for metro and RF test at VIAVI, added, “Through this collaboration with ThinkRF, we can address a key requirement from our customers to extend the investment they have made in their test and measurement equipment to the 5G spectrum. We worked closely with ThinkRF to create a product that has the size, weight and power requirements needed for remote, distributed and lab deployments. What we developed with ThinkRF is clearly a game changer for many industries that need a cost-effective solution to address the opportunities that 5G creates.”
