Compressed Digital Video Exciter

The DVE series Compressed Digital Video ExciterTM is reportedly the industry's first and most compact solution for satellite uplink applications. The unit integrates an all-in-one modulator and RF converter with DiviCom's MediaView MV10 program encoder. The result is a two-rack, fully integrated solution that combines Moving Picture Experts Group-2 encoding, digital video broadcasting modulation and RF conversion functions in one package. A full range of RF output models are available, including Ka-, Ku-, C- and L-band frequency ranges, all synthesized in 125 kHz steps. A 70 MHz IF model is also available. Data rates are available from 1.5 to 15 Mbps.

Low Cost VSAT Modem

The model STEL-9260 very small aperture terminal (VSAT) modem is reportedly the first modem designed specifically for mid-range data rate applications such as Internet access and rural telephony. The unit uses a low noise block (LNB) downconverter based on a DRO rather than a more costly high stability LNB based on a phase-locked synthesizer, reducing cost. The transmitter section has direct RF output covering the 52 to 88 MHz IF range, and programmable power levels from -5 to -25 dBm. The receiver is a true variable-rate demodulator, which is user programmable from 19.6 to 1024 kbps BPSK and 64 to 2048 kbps quadrature PSK (QPSK). The modem can track input frequency drift up to ±2 MHz without the loss of signal lock. The carrier tracking range narrows to ±1 MHz for data rates of 1 Mbps with BPSK and 2 Mbps with QPSK. Production quantities of the modem are scheduled to be available in January 1998. Price: $2100 each (100).
