Cassidian develops new applications for smart vehicles

International

August 5, 2013

Cassidian is participating in the European R&D car-to-Car Content Delivery (CarCoDe) project aimed at developing a platform for ‘smart car-to-car content’. The primary objective is to create a system-independent automotive software platform enabling the exchange of real-time automotive information. Cassidian is working on different emergency scenarios in order to introduce new services, such as remote diagnosis, crisis monitoring and best route information, for police cars, ambulances or fire engines, for instance.

CarCoDe comes within the ITEA 2 programme and supported through partial funding by public authorities. The project will last until August 2015 and involves 21 partners. The CarCoDe vision is to reduce communication costs and data redundancy in real-time content sharing, taking into account the different needs and constraints in the automotive application domain.

This includes enhancing in-vehicle networks and infotainment systems, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) applications and suitable existing sensors in the car, as well as identifying suitable transmission technologies.

Among the areas in which R&D is taking place, the project teams are working on means of allowing the exchange of information between public safety vehicles, in order to be able to share a common operational picture. On-board equipment and vehicle status monitoring in the car provide real-time information. In addition, the network will provide access to existing car facilities and information (camera, engine and infotainment) for public safety usage.
