Andrew Begins Base Station Antenna Production in Czech Republic

August 7, 2006

Andrew Corp. has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic for the production of base station antennas for wireless operators in the Europe, Middle East, Africa region.

The new Brno plant is a significant expansion of Andrew’s European presence and enhances the company's ability to support locally the network requirements of customers in the region. The facility is closely tied to the EMEA product design center in Scotland that Andrew established in 2005 to provide region-specific design, qualification and system specification services.

“Our expanded manufacturing presence in Europe enables Andrew to offer high quality product, local engineering assistance and experienced support to our many customers in the region,” said John DeSana, group president, Antenna and Cable Products Group, Andrew Corp. “We now are further invested in this important market, where base station antenna customers can more easily visit our production facility and acquaint themselves with our world-class manufacturing and testing processes.”

The custom-built 1850 square meter facility in the Slatina area of Brno currently employs approximately 50 people. The facility was constructed with enough capacity to triple production from its current levels, as customer demand for base station antennas in the region continues to rise. It is Andrew’s second Czech plant, joining a cable and microwave antenna manufacturing facility about 10 kilometers away in the Modrice area of Brno. The new Brno plant produces a full spectrum of Decibel® base station antennas, including high and low band sector; 2.5G and 3G single-band, dual-band and tri-band; and concealment solution models. All electrical variable tilt antennas are compatible with Andrew’s Teletilt® remote electrical tilt system.
