Laser Services awarded workforce training grant for employees

August 27, 2012

LaserServices Inc. (www.laserservicesusa.com), a precision laser job shop located in Westford, MA, has announced that they have been awarded a $61,200 Workforce Training Fund grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for an employee training and professional development project. Laser Services will use the grant for training programs for 32 employees and expects to create four new jobs as a result of this project.

The purpose of the Workforce Training Fund is to provide resources to Massachusetts businesses to train current and newly hired employees. The fund’s major focus is on small to medium-sized companies.

"To compete in the global economy, we must continuously invest in our workforce, and I am proud to give thousands of our workers the chance to improve their skill sets," said Governor Deval Patrick. "Because of innovative programs like the Workforce Training Fund, Massachusetts continues to lead the nation out of the global economic recession.”

The funds will help Laser Services adopt lean production techniques and build a training program in which trade school students and young workers will learn from experienced mentors.

“One way this company is going to become more competitive is with this kind of focused training and development of our employees,” said Greg Sexton, President and CEO of Laser Services, Inc. “While our employees do a great job picking up their skills on the job, with this grant, we can expedite the process and put more seasoned personnel on the floor every day.”

To be eligible for the grant, Laser Services was required to demonstrate the need for the training, the positive impact the training would have on the organization, and the company's fiscal responsibility.
