ZVL3 75 Combined Network and Spectrum Analyzer

Rohde & Schwarz simplifies TV component measurements with an innovative combined network and spectrum analyzer

Munich, January 15, 2009 — For the first time in the industry, 75 Ω network and spectrum analysis is now available in a single box. The R&S ZVL3 75 from Rohde & Schwarz offers a wide range of functions, compact design, low weight (7 kg) and optional battery-powered operation. This unique combination of features is cost-effective for traditional applications and enables many new ones. The instrument's 75 Ω connectors make the R&S ZVL3 75 ideal for development and production applications for TV, CATV or sat TV components and systems. Measurement tasks during installation and maintenance are also easily addressed by the R&S ZVL3 75, which features a frequency range from 9 kHz to 3 GHz.

As an all-purpose instrument for development, production and installation, the R&S ZVL3 75 is ideal for passive component measurements including determining the impedance of filters and cables. Other prime applications include standard amplifier and antenna matching measurements during system installations. The two-port bidirectional network analyzer enables complete system error correction. Consequently, the R&S ZVL3 75 can perform high-precision S-parameter measurements on 75 Ω DUTs.

While most 50 Ω instruments require matching pads, this is not necessary with the R&S ZVL3 75. The 75 Ω test ports simplify handling while increasing stability, output level and dynamic range.

Because 75 Ω and 50 Ω test systems use similar connectors, a 75 Ω socket may mistakenly be connected to a 50 Ω plug and damaged. To prevent this, color coding differentiates the 75 Ω test ports from the 50 Ω test ports. If the test port is ever damaged, the defective inner conductor can be replaced on site, eliminating cost-intensive repair and recalibration.

The power measurement option turns the R&S ZVL3 75 into a three-in-one instrument. As a network analyzer, for example, it provides the S-parameters of a DUT. Using its spectrum analysis function, the R&S ZVL3 75 can measure the spectral components of an amplifier as well as adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) or third-order intermodulation (TOI). When used with an external power sensor from Rohde & Schwarz, the R&S ZVL3 75 can also measure absolute power. Measurements in the time domain (TDR, distance-to-fault) help users locate cable faults during installation work.

The R&S ZVL3 75 can be operated with either front-panel keys or with a mouse and keyboard. It has a port for connecting an external monitor. To allow users to evaluate a large number of test parameters in parallel, the R&S ZVL3 75 can display up to 100 traces and diagrams simultaneously. The R&S ZVL3 75 also lets users switch quickly between preloaded setups.

The R&S ZVL3 75 is now available from Rohde & Schwarz.
