Canada is Fixed on Ericsson Microwave Transmission System

October 14, 2004

In what is one of the largest fixed wireless broadband deployments in the country, Bell Canada has teamed up with Ericsson Canada to expand its Alberta network by deploying more than 300 point-to-multipoint wireless links. The contract includes a complete MINI-LINK™ microwave transmission network including point-to-multipoint systems, network management and services. The system is complemented by the point-to-point MINI-LINK high capacity OC-3 equivalent solution, providing data rates of up to 155 Mbps. Implementation has begun on the network, which will cover several thousand kilometres across Alberta.

Ericsson was selected after extensive lab and field trials and verifications including integration to Bell’s core network and network management systems. Other considerations are said to be that MINI-LINK delivers improved transmission flexibility, low operating costs and great scope for service differentiation.
