EastLink Selects Ericsson to Build Mobile Broadband Network in Canada

August 19, 2011

Ericsson has signed a four-year agreement as the sole vendor for EastLink's core and radio access networks, using HSPA+ and next generation technologies. The company will supply the Canadian operator with its multi-standard radio base station; RBS 6000, circuit switched and packet networks including Evolved Packet Core and Operation Support Systems (OSS), as well as providing professional services.

The RBS 6000 is a multi-standard radio base station that supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE, providing a cost-effective deployment for next-generation high speed mobile broadband, video, and web application services while providing subscribers with a superior user experience.

"We strive to provide our customers with the best communications and entertainment experience possible," said Matthew MacLellan, President, EastLink Wireless. "With this network evolution, our customers will be able to work and communicate more reliably and faster than ever before."

Ericsson has operated in Canada since 1953 and today has more than 3,000 employees. In 2010, Ericsson invested more than 350 million Canadian dollars in Canada and ranks as one of the top R&D investors in the country.

"Ericsson is excited to work with EastLink as it enhances its communications capabilities and services with the latest mobile broadband technology," said Angel Ruiz, head of Ericsson North America. "We take great pride in providing telecommunication companies with the best network technology available."
