Show Me the Sunshine

January 7, 2011

I hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season as I did. I was able to escape the cold and snow of New England for a few days with a trip to sunny Florida with my family. Upon returning home, it always makes me wonder why I live in a region that is nearly uninhabitable for half of the year. Thankfully, there are several industry events that take me to warmer climes during the often cruel months of January, February and March.

Next week, I’ll be checking out the Radio and Wireless Week in Phoenix, AZ. In February, I’ll be roaming the halls of the GSM Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with editors Richard Mumford and David Vye. We always look forward to meeting with clients at this event and hearing about the latest developments in wireless technology. And speaking of wireless, the CTIA WIRELESS 2011 moves to Orlando, FL, this year and promises to be as big and bold as ever.

You’re probably aware of the RF/Microwave Zone pavilion that MWJ organizes at CTIA WIRELESS. This will be our third year of partnering with CTIA and 2010 was our best yet. In 2011, we will be organizing our first seminar at CTIA. This Expert Forum is titled “Understanding MIMO OTA Testing: Simple Solutions to a Complex Test” and will feature speakers from ETS-Lindgren, Agilent, Elektrobit and Spirent. If you’re planning on attending CTIA and have interest in this area, plan on joining us on March 24th. For more information, visit www.mwjournal.com/MIMOatCTIA.

You may have noticed a new look to our weekly newsletters this month. The Microwave FLASH and ADVISOR have been redesigned and retooled for the New Year. We’ve also added text ads to the FLASH, so if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to drive traffic to your website, whitepaper, trade show booth or new product, these provide a cost-effective solution. I’m also pleased to announce this month’s debut of the “Military Microwaves” newsletter, which replaces the monthly MicroView. This newsletter will feature monthly columns from Defense experts Jim Fallon and Asif Anwar, along with the latest news, technology, products and upcoming events related to the military/defense market. Contact your sales person for sponsorship details.

We have many more new things ahead for 2011, but I’ll save some for the next edition of the WaveGuide. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing some of you at one of the upcoming trade shows. I’ll be the guy with the big smile, enjoying a brief respite from the long New England winter.

Best Wishes in the New Year,

Carl Sheffres
