Texas Instruments Inc. (TI), leading the industry with the most complete wireless connectivity portfolio for embedded applications, announced that the CC2538 is the industry’s first ZigBee® wireless network processor to offer the three most popular ZigBee standards for one end-device (ZigBee Smart Energy™, ZigBee Home Automation™ and ZigBee Light Link™). Now a single end-equipment can support these three standards, offering a seamless user experience with fast switching between each standard making it seem like concurrent operation.
RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focused on innovative, next-generation RF solutions for the wireless connectivity and cellular mobility markets, announced it will start volume production of its second-generation, pure CMOS-based RFeICs in Q4 2012. The new solutions will serve rapidly growing markets including smartphone and tablets, WLAN 11a/n/ac, ZigBee, wireless audio, smart energy and home automation.
The wireless sensor network market, led by ZigBee, grew ten-fold from 2007 to 2010 and exceeded 45 million annual shipments in 2011. “Strong growth is expected for 2012 and beyond as ZigBee pervades the home automation and home entertainment markets, whilst Smart Meters continue to be rolled out across the globe,” commented Peter Cooney, wireless connectivity practice director.
Bluetooth Smart and ZigBee will compete in a number of new and emerging markets that require low power wireless connections and interoperability with other devices. Key battlegrounds include connected home devices (remote controls, TVs, STBs, etc.) and wireless sensors (medical, health, sports, home automation, etc.).
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) announced the industry’s first demonstrations of the new ZigBee® Light Link standard on the CC2530 ZigBee system-on-chip (SoC). Developed by leading lighting and technology companies within the ZigBee Alliance, ZigBee Light Link standardizes wireless networked LED lighting systems making them easier to install, manage and operate than previous closed proprietary systems.
RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD), a designer and manufacturer of high-performance radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies, announced the release of the RFFM6201, a 2.4 GHz band single-chip Zigbee® front-end module (FEM) featuring an integrated power amplifier, low noise amplifier and diversity switch.
Anaren Inc. announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Tesla Controls to develop and market a unique, streamlined approach to the typical familiarization routine, basic programming and development process of wireless applications for the ZigBee® Standard.
