NEC Corp. has launched the compact MB4300 all-in-one LTE base station system, which has been designed for a wide range of installation options in areas with limited space, such as rooftops and compact indoor spaces. This series paves the way for more cost effective installation of small cell base stations, helps boost capacity and improves overall performance.
Ceragon Networks Ltd. has received orders for additional high-capacity microwave systems and services from Tele2 Russia, with the result that the company will provide high-capacity wireless backhaul in 15 of the 37 regions in Russia covered by the telecommunications operator.
TE Connectivity and ip.access have teamed up to create what is claimed to be the world’s first all-digital integrated Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and small cell base station for WCDMA services.
A U.S. election year combined with uncertain European financial fundamentals has clouded the economic outlook for the North American market. However, mobile operators are busily preparing their networks for next generation 4G services. “North American mobile cellular capital expenditure is expected to hold its ground in 2012 year-on-year, with expenditure of around US$ 10 billion”, said Jake Saunders, VP for forecasting at ABI Research.
Researchers from Rice University unveiled a new multi-antenna technology that could help wireless providers keep pace with the voracious demands of data-hungry smartphones and tablets. The technology aims to dramatically increase network capacity by allowing cell towers to simultaneously beam signals to more than a dozen customers on the same frequency.
Two thirds of small cell base stations will be deployed in bands above 2.2 GHz by 2016, compared to fewer than 40 percent in 2013, according to the latest research report by Maravedis-Rethink entitled, "Transforming the Mobile Data Network: Operator Strategies for Profitable Small Cell Networks 2012-2016," based on a global survey of mobile operators.
Aeroflex Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aeroflex Holding Corp., announced support for a comprehensive range of IP data services with the Aeroflex E500 LTE Capacity Test platform. Adding end-to-end data services supplements the industry-leading functional capability of the E500, providing network equipment vendors and cellular operators with the most realistic lab-based LTE end-to-end test solution on the market.
Ceragon Networks Ltd. announced the launch of its new generation of packet radio solutions, FibeAir IP-20C. Striving to meet the unique demands of 4G/LTE-A networks and provide mobile operators with long-term network planning peace of mind, FibeAir IP-20C is breaking the traditional capacity barriers, and is the only microwave radio to offer a virtual fiber solution in licensed bands.
IQD’s new IQOV-70 series OCXO, which is launching at Embedded World 2013, is designed for use in next generation multimode base station platforms. Operating at a frequency of 10 MHz, the new model achieves a frequency stability of ±3 ppb (parts per billion) over the operating temperature range of -10° to +70°C.
CEA-Leti, which has developed opportunistic radio technologies (or cognitive radio) since 2005, is the first research center in France to be granted a government licence to experiment with television white space equipment in the field.
