The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola Inc., a leader in the development and deployment of mission critical communications solutions, has announced that over 1,800 police users in Oslo are now live on the Norwegian national public safety TETRA network, Nødnett, using TETRA digital radio solutions delivered by Motorola in partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks.

Motorola has supplied the core TETRA digital radio communications infrastructure as well as the MTP850 TETRA terminals and MTM800E mobiles to be used in the new digital mission critical network, in association with main contract partner Nokia Siemens Networks. The field-proven MTP850 model has been designed with the end user in mind, with an intuitive mobile phone style interface. It provides state-of-the-art technology solutions such as a built-in GPS-receiver to accurately locate personnel.

The network is based on Motorola’s Dimetra IP solution, delivering TETRA over an IP based network that offers a resilient, robust and reliable platform for seamless communication. The company’s technology and services also support the future development of the nationwide system, including the provision of higher data speeds to support the deployment of advanced mobile data solutions.

“We are delighted that the system in Oslo has gone live for the Police users,” said Manuel Torres, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, EMEA. “The transition from analogue to digital communications in the new TETRA network will ensure a greatly improved user experience and significantly more secure communications for police users.”
