Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Co. (VMS) has selected NEC Corp. to deploy a mobile backhaul solution based on the company’s ultra compact microwave communications system, PASOLINK. VMS is the leading mobile operator in Vietnam, with more than 2.9 million subscribers at the end of 2008, and its 3G mobile services are expected to begin later this year. PASOLINK will be introduced throughout the country in support of the operator’s network.

The system’s greatest advantages include its ability to easily and inexpensively respond to increasing telecommunications needs. The system has become the driving force behind the expansion of a wide variety of product applications' ability to handle different operating conditions, such as increasing data capacities and interfaces, without installing new hardware.

NEC has supplied PASOLINK to nearly all of the mobile operators in Vietnam and boasts a large share of the country’s ultra compact microwave communications system market. The company views its selection to provide this latest microwave system as confirmation of VMS’s high regard for NEC services and systems.

Tadashi Ugajin, General Manager of NEC’s international sales division, commented, “PASOLINK’s flexibility enables the system to process a wide variety of transmission speeds and interfaces within the same platform, which facilitates mobile traffic growth, enables smooth transition to new 3G transmission systems and the expansion of mobile network coverage in Vietnam.”
