As mobile operators—and their equipment manufacturer partners—around the world race toward implementing wireless networks beyond 3G, many are tapping Andrew for support in developing solutions to bring these advanced networks to reality.

Andrew, the CommScope Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless communication systems and products, has been awarded multiple projects by numerous operators and OEMs around the world for the development of equipment for use in so-called fourth generation (4G) networks—both Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX—being implemented or planned.

“Andrew is helping lead the way in providing radio frequency and network solutions for the next generation of wireless networks and applications,” said Ted Hally, executive vice president and general manager, Antenna, Cable and Cabinets Group, Andrew. “Throughout its long history, Andrew continually has helped its customers successfully evolve as technologies and market opportunities dictate. With an agnostic approach to standards, frequencies and technologies, we believe we are uniquely positioned and experienced to help our customers develop and deploy the best solutions for their next generation networks.”

Andrew currently is developing new cabinet- and tower-based solutions—including filters, amplifiers, antennas, repeaters and fully integrated base station RF offerings—for multiple customers covering various LTE frequencies. The company has begun delivering initial modules to customers for evaluation in anticipation of being market-ready when LTE begins initial trials and deployment in some markets later in 2009. Broad deployment of LTE is expected commencing in 2010 and 2011. Andrew also is continuing its work on WiMAX-enabled solutions for multiple customers, including antenna and cable products that currently are in active use in live network applications.

In addition, Andrew capabilities from its Network Solutions organization, including products such as its Invex.NxG™ wireless drive-test system and Comsearch spectrum management solutions, are ready to support operators with their LTE planning, deployment and testing.

“Andrew is actively developing a complete set of product solutions necessary for its global customers to evolve to new networks and applications,” said Hally. “We are proud of our long-standing relationships with customers and our ability to support them in their network evolutions.”

Long Term Evolution, or LTE, is an entirely new radio platform technology with standards currently under development by the 3GPP, and initial deployment planned in 2009. LTE promises potentially significant performance improvements for mobile data services, along with cost efficiencies for network operators. LTE is part of the GSM evolutionary path beyond 3G, following EDGE, UMTS/WCDMA and HSPA.
