The microwave industry is an ever-evolving and increasingly dynamic environment. In recent years there have been many new competitors entering this market. It is therefore crucial for MESL to maintain a visible profile in such a crowded industry. We believe that the major annual exhibitions provide the most effective return on marcom spend and the best opportunity for us to develop existing and new contacts in the industry, including suppliers and customers.

MESL Microwave designs and manufactures a wide range of world-class microwave components and subsystems for telecommunications, defence, space, security and medical applications. These include diplexer filters, couplers, ferrite isolators and circulators, waveguide subsystems, ferrite phase shifters, ferrite switches, high performance rotary switches up to 95 GHz, SAW pulse compression subsystems and delay lines, millimetre-wave transceiver modules and MIC subsystems up to 77 GHz.

MESL has over 40 years' heritage in the microwave market. Our broad range of components and subsystems, allied with our history and experience, gives us the ability to understand customers’ needs in a variety of market segments. Furthermore, our company size and structure enables us to work closely with customers and be flexible and adaptable to changes in requirements. We have found that engaging with customers deeply in this way greatly facilitates success.

Therefore, European Microwave Week is, to MESL, the key event of the year in Europe, since it attracts a wide variety of customers and suppliers that would otherwise take considerable time and resources to meet individually. It enables us to strengthen existing customer relationships as well as develop new ones. It has become a true global event in recent years, with many attendees and exhibitors from the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions. In addition to presenting new opportunities for MESL, it also brings valuable insight into developing trends in the industry, both of a competitive and non-competitive nature.

MESL has been exhibiting at EuMW for seven years. During that period we have seen the exhibition and conference grow significantly, making it an essential part of our annual marcom activities. From a technical viewpoint it has provided our engineering teams with some fresh ideas and insight into new areas of research to enhance product development. A key challenge for MESL in today’s dynamic environment is to keep innovating, with new product concepts and optimisation of current technology.

For the future, the challenge for EuMW is to maintain the high standard it has set itself. In some respects it reflects the health of the microwave market in general. At the moment, the wireless communications market is growing strongly, and forecast to continue for the next few years, therefore this should be reflected in the level of interest in major exhibitions and conferences. The key to success for the conferences during EuMW will be to present and discuss technical subjects that are topical and represent the growing areas of the market, while also recognising the requirements for other market areas which may be more steady-state.
