OEwaves Inc. has been awarded a contract to develop frequency agile bandpass and notch filters to support agile receiver systems for military and communication applications. The filter development builds upon OEwaves’ proprietary photonics filter technology concept that provides wideband tunability.

Such highly agile filters enhance receiver system performances and reduce the total volume and power required by stringent military applications. The tunable microwave photonic filters are based on the patented technology of ultra-high quality (Q) factor crystalline whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical resonators.

"The wide tuning range and high agility of OEwaves filters enhance performance and simplify receiver architectures," said Lute Maleki, president and CEO of OEwaves Inc. "We are delighted to be providing this capability for military and communications systems.”

The demand for a multi-pole widely tunable microwave photonic filter with similar performance parameters extends beyond miniature agile receiver system requirements and includes military and commercial microwave filter banks, radio emission detection, and other scientific instrumentation and test equipment.
