The stands had been completed, the latest products were displayed and the stand staff were set as the doors opened on the largest European Microwave Exhibition to date. With more than 300 exhibiting companies, taking up over 7,000 m2 of gross exhibition space in the Foyer and Hall B0 of the Munich International Congress Centre (ICM) is the centrepiece of European Microwave Week. Not only has the exhibition grown in size but also in status. Manufacturers are now building the show into their product development schedules and specifically targeting it as a launch pad for new products.

The first visitors of the many expected over the three days of the exhibition (9 – 11 October) are taking advantage of having access to companies large and small, established and start-ups from Europe, the U.S. and Asia all under one roof. Not only are the latest products and innovations on display, but the exhibition is also fulfilling a vital networking function where like-minded engineers, R&D specialists and vendors can discuss the latest trends and developments and exchange ideas.

Academia and industry are coming together too as Hall B0 is a focal point for the conference coffee and lunch breaks and the home of the CST sponsored Cyber Café, which is already proving a hive of activity.

Each day the hall will also be where the conference Poster Sessions are displayed. Stimulating interest and demonstrating the practicalities of research and development on the first day were posters on such subjects such as the effects of atmosphere on the reliability of RF-MEMS capacitive switches, microwave phase shifters based on Sol-Gel derived Ba0.3Sr0.7TiO3 ferroelectric thin films and silicon substrate integrated ferromagnetic nanowires for microwave applications. Over the next two days varied and diverse content will continue to make these Poster Sessions a focal point. Also, very much emphasising the practicalities of developing technology the Exhibitor Workshops are also underway and proving as popular as ever.

Of course the main buzz on the show floor is generated by the new products and the company announcements that make the exhibition a real draw for visitors. This Online Show Daily aims to relay that activity direct from the show. Following are the breaking announcements, with much more to come over the next few days and beyond.
