Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Mobicom, a provider of telecommunication services in Mongolia, for the deployment of a nationwide NGN network as well as the expansion of its existing wireless networks. Once deployed, the solution will provide the operator with the end-to-end quality of service and secure the functionality needed to deliver innovative, value-added services to customers.

Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will supply products from its IMS-ready NGN portfolio, including soft switches and media gateways. Implementation of the project will enable Mobicom to significantly increase its network capacity, while minimizing transmission expenses.

Arvintsogt Ragchaa, Mobicom CEO, commented, "We are confident that leveraging Alcatel-Lucent’s extensive experience in deploying NGN solutions will enable a smooth evolution of the Mobicom network towards an IP world and result in a successful network transformation project."

Alcatel-Lucent will also expand the operator’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network with additional base stations as well as the latest generation of the company’s radio network controller platform, the 9130 Base Station Controller/Multi-BSC Fast Packet Server (BSC/MFS), which is designed to support the ever-increasing volume of voice and data traffic generated by customer demand.
