The unprecedented growth in European aviation has lead to the creation of the European General Aviation Manufacturer Group (EGAMA), which will be incorporated as a high level sectoral group of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD).

This will enable it to use ASD’s structures and expertise when working with European Institutions and Agencies as well as National Governments on issues related to General Aviation.

A significant element of the EGAMA Terms of Reference is to foster common coordinated industrial views on policies and practices, which support the identification and the growth of General Aviation in Europe.

The group will also establish the process for how the sector can develop more systematic data gathering, which is necessary to improve the understanding of the sector.

Charles Edelstenne, CEO of Dassault Aviation and President of ASD, stated, “We estimate that in Europe alone, there are between 30,000 and 50,000 General Aviation aircraft in use. Business aviation is also growing twice as fast as the traditional commercial airline sector. I am convinced that EGAMA will play an active part in ensuring a better integration of General Aviation in the European air transport system.”
