The recent ARMMS RF & Microwave Society two-day conference, held in Steventon, Oxfordshire, UK, was well attended, lively and productive.
It featured speakers from industry and academia and covered a wide range of topics including synthetic aperture radar, RFID, geodetic grade antenna design, waveguide horn design, interference measurements, filter design using an IQ method for amplitude modulation calibration, design of next generation cellular and broadband systems, and an insight into the energy recovery Linac at the Daresbury Laboratory.
The Steve Evans Pugh award for the best paper, which is voted for by the attendees, went to Steve Nightingale of ERA for his presentation titled "Interference Cancellation Systems – A Solution to Co-site Interference Between RF Transmitters." Throughout the two days there was a tabletop exhibition where manufacturers were on hand to discuss products and new developments.
The Society Dinner on the middle evening also proved to be an ideal forum for networking as well as for enjoying excellent food and wine and good company. The business meeting that was held on the second day was also the society’s AGM, and with George Hjipieris standing down after many years service, Roger Hopper of Roke Manor Research was elected as the new chairperson.
