Nitronex, a developer and manufacturer of high performance RF power transistors for the commercial and broadband wireless infrastructure markets, has teamed with Rockwell Collins to further develop the GaN on Si manufacturing infrastructure for military applications.

Funded by the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), the manufacturing technology program began in the fourth quarter of 2006 and is expected to continue through 2009.

“We are very excited to be working with Rockwell Collins and the United States Air Force in a joint effort to continue maturing the manufacturing infrastructure of GaN on Si power transistors,” said Kevin Linthicum, CTO and VP of engineering. “The approval of funding from the US military validates that GaN on Si is a significant technology platform for the development of future communication systems.”

The agreement between Nitronex and Rockwell Collins is expected to accelerate the development of the manufacturing technology process for GaN on Si infrastructure.
