NEC Creates Microwave System in Moldova

NEC Corp. has signed a contract with the Moldovan mobile telecommunications operator, Voxtel, for the supply of the company's Pasolink NEO advanced, point-to-point microwave wireless access system. This landmark order makes Moldova the 174th country in which NEC supplies its products and the 123rd country to take delivery of the tried and tested Pasolink system.

The agreement has an international flavor as Voxtel, the number one GSM operator in Moldova, is affiliated with France Telecom, which is owned by the UK mobile operator Orange. Under the terms of the agreement Pasolink NEO will be employed for transmission among mobile base stations, as well as for connection among base stations and trunk line networks.

The demand for microwave communication systems is growing rapidly in countries like Moldova as the systems enable quick installation of telecommunication infrastructure. NEC's Pasolink NEO was judged to be particularly attractive due to its ability to handle different transmission speeds and interfaces with the same platform. Also, this flexibility allows easier and more cost efficient expansion of networks when operators need to increase capacity.
