D2 Technologies announced that it has opened a Design Center in Maynard, MA, just outside of Boston. The center will be focused on the development of software products for mobile communication devices. Zigurd Mednieks, chief software architect, who reports to Matt Randmaa, vice president of engineering, heads the Design Center. Mednieks is a widely respected technologist, and the author of books and book chapters on telephony and programming published by leading publishers. D2 is best known for its vPort software, which is deployed in residential products, and is designed for CPE products such as wired/wireless Voice-enabled terminal adapters, routers and gateways, as well VoIP phones and handsets.

"D2 is making a strong push into the mobile communication products arena, to complement our existing leadership position with devices for the CPE market via such products as VoIP gateways and Voice over WiFi handsets," says David Wong, president of D2. "We are very fortunate to have an industry expert with the stature of Zigurd join us to head the Boston Design Center. We now have Design Centers in Boston and Taiwan that are closely integrated with our R&D staff in Santa Barbara, CA, which is known worldwide for its VoIP advances." The Boston Design Center is currently in a staffing mode. It is located at 2 Clocktower Place, Suite 360 Maynard, MA 01754.
