Thunderline-Z, a designer and manufacturer of RF, DC and capacitive feedthrus, as well as soldered and direct sealed hermetic packages, announced the posting of two new engineering tools to its web site. The first tool is an advanced search engine of the company's entire database of previously designed feedthrus. This tool allows users to search over 2000 models of RF/50 Ohm, DC and capacitor/filter feedthrus to find the model that most closely resembles their application. Users can enter as much, or as little, information about their feedthru requirements to obtain either a broad choice of options, or a specific model that fits their needs. Search criteria includes: feedthru function, body and pin diameters, and pin tip type. After selecting a specific model, the tool will also generate an automatic on-line data sheet for that model that will display complete mechanical, electrical and environmental specifications. Users are also given a complete list of pin tip options with which to modify any model.
The second tool offered is a new impedance reference calculator. This tool allows engineers to calculate the opposing dimension of glass to pin, or pin to glass, that will achieve optimal impedance from their package. Users simply enter their known glass or pin diameter, enter their desired impedance and choose a desired dielectric of either 4.1, 4.9. or 6.65. The tool then instantly displays the optimal glass or pin diameter that will achieve their desired impedance.
