Unitek Miyachi International Ltd. has acquired Benchmark International Inc. Located in Goffstown, NH, Benchmark is widely recognized as the world leader in hermetic sealing systems for small electronic packages.
Platinum Equity has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Access Product Division (APD) and Broadband Wireless Group (BWG) from ADC Telecommunications Inc. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
ADC announced the sale of certain cable assets to C-COR.net. Assets included in the sale include the Optiworx family of transport products for hybrid fiber/coaxial applications and the DV 6000/6400 line of high quality, uncompressed digital video products. The transaction is valued at approximately $32 M and includes the assumption of certain liabilities.

Anritsu Corp. has opened a technologically advanced facility devoted exclusively to the research and development and manufacturing of optical components. The facility, located in Tanasawa, Japan, will allow the company to dramatically increase production of optical modules that satisfy the growing demand for high quality, high performance components designed into WDE and DWDM systems.
Velocium , TRW's telecommunications products company, has opened a 50,000 square-foot headquarters and design lab. The facility is located in El Segundo, CA.
Rosenberger has opened a new 130,000 square-foot high tech manufacturing center in Beijing, China. The Beijing plant is joined by a new fiber-optic facility in Shanghai. In related news, the company has been certified to ISO/TS 16949 by DQS. ISO/TS 16949 certifies a high level quality management system meeting the needs of the international automotive industry.

Discovery Semiconductors has attained registration to the newest ISO 9001:2000 management system standards for design, manufacturing and distribution. The 2000 registration was just recently implemented by the International Organization for Standardization.
APLAC Solutions Corp. has signed a distributorship agreement with PCB Graphtech Pte Ltd. authorizing PCB Graphtech to represent APLAC Solutions' products and collateral services in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
TESSCO Technologies Inc. announced a new contractual relationship that provides for the distribution of Andrew Corp. 's wireless infrastructure, terrestrial microwave and broadband products to TESSCO customers in North America. Under the agreement, TESSCO will offer Andrew products as a part of their configured product-based solutions for base site construction logistics for wireless transmission towers.
Ansoft Corp. has reached an agreement with Rohde & Schwarz to provide links between its popular waveform generation software and Ansoft's communication design products, Serenade and Symphony. The new capability will allow RF designers and system architects to simulate communication systems under the same conditions used in hardware testing and product development.
Alcatel will further develop the delivery of advanced services over DSL through a LivingLAB™ agreement with Innovatia and Aliant Telecom .
Silicon Wave Inc. and MindTree Consulting have entered into a license agreement for the integration of their software and hardware Bluetooth solutions that will enable the support of Bluetooth wireless connectivity in a wide range of consumer devices and PC peripherals including cell phones, printers, access points, digital imaging devices and set top boxes.
Fujitsu Quantum Devices Ltd. (FQD) and Nortel Networks have agreed on joint specifications for high performance receiver devices for use in 10 gbps optical communication products. GTRAN Wireless Inc. has expanded the terms of its existing CDMA license agreement with QUALCOMM Inc. to include cdma2000 1X Evolution development to enable high speed wireless packet data solutions. Raytheon Co. announced that three of the four chips in the Tondelayo 5 GHz Wireless radio chipset will be available for customer evaluation. The full chipset and reference design will be ready for sampling in the fourth quarter.
Atmel Corp. has launched a new university program for its FPSLIC family of programmable System-on-Chip and associated designer tools. The company has created the ATSTK94U design laboratory package that is intended for use in FPGA, microcontroller, digital system design and System-on-Chip engineering curriculums. The package allows instructors to create derivative material that is optimized for their teaching environment.
Corning Cable Systems has completed its first North American deployment of S.L.I.M.® cable. Stream Intelligent Networks used S.L.I.M. cable in building a telecommunications network in Toronto, Canada.

TDK Semiconductor Corp. filed a lawsuit in the US District court, Central District of California against Silicon Laboratories for infringement of a patent entitled "Signal Modulation Across Capacitors," US Patent No. 5,654,984. TDK Semiconductor is seeking an injunction and damages for the infringement of this patent.
Palomar Technologies won the 2001 Advanced Packaging Award for its Laser Diode Attach (LDA) Automated Assembly Cell. The award was sponsored by Advanced Packaging magazine.

Andrew Corp. reports sales of $241.8 M for the third quarter ended June 30, compared to $259.2 M for the same period last year. Net income was $12.2 M (15¢/diluted share) compared to $20.9 M (26¢/diluted share) for the third quarter of 2000.
LCC International Inc. reports sales of $29.5 M for the second quarter ended June 30, compared to $34.2 M for the same period last year. Net income was $700 K (3¢/share) compared to $3.6 M (18¢/share) for the second quarter of 2000.
Anaren Microwave Inc. reports sales of $15.69 M for the fourth quarter ended June 30, compared to $18.82 M for the same period last year. Net income was $1.86 M (5¢/share) compared to $3.75 M (16¢/share) for the fourth quarter of 2000.
SEMX Corp. reports sales of $15.3 M for the second quarter ended June 30, compared to $17.6 M for the same period last year. Net loss was $684 K (14¢/share) compared to $609 K (9¢/share) for the second quarter of 2000.
Merrimac Industries Inc. reports sales of $6.77 M for the second quarter ended June 30, compared to $4.95 M for the same period last year. Net income was $136 K (5¢/share) compared to $40 K (2¢/share) for the fourth quarter of 2000.
REMEC Inc. reports sales of $60.4 M for the second quarter ended July 27, compared to $63.0 M for the same period last year. Net loss was $6.3 M (14¢/share) compared to a net income of $3.2 M (7¢/share) for the second quarter of 2000.
CONTRACTS
TestMart has been awarded a contract with an estimated value of $600 M by the Department of Defense Naval Inventory and Control Point (NAVICP). Under terms of the five-year agreement, TestMart will develop and operate a private e-commerce marketplace for the General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment division.
IFR Systems Inc. has received an order worth nearly $615 K to supply 61 IFR 2945A Communication Service Monitors to the Japanese Police Agency (JPA).
Datum Inc. has an exclusive contract with TRAK Microwave Corp. to supply its X72™ Rubidium oscillator. The X72 will serve as the frequency and synchronization source TRAK's model 9100 time and frequency main frame.
TECOM Industries, a TRAK Communications company , has been awarded a contract by Spacelabs Medical to provide an antenna solution for the active telemetry portion of local area networks within hospital environments. TECOM will design and manufacture the access point antenna and radome as well as the subscriber antennas in the patient's portable monitoring device at the 600 and 1400 MHz frequencies.
Sanyo Semiconductor Co. has purchased SynTest Technologies Inc. 's TurboFault™ fault simulator for its current and next generation System-on-Chip designs. The three-year contract is for multiple licenses of TurboFault. The value was not disclosed.
Turnkey Manufacturing Solution Inc. (TMS) has been chosen by Raytheon Co. to develop the test methodology for Raytheon's Tondelayo Wireless LAN chipset. TMS was chosen because of its high frequency RFIC test expertise.

Cynergy System Design Inc. has named Thomas Robert Conn Jr. its new president and CEO. Conn brings a wealth of high tech engineering and business experience from his 20 years with the Semiconductor Products Sector of Motorola. In related news, the company named Steven P. Smith as its VP of engineering. Smith brings 20 years of engineering experience in a variety of roles to the company.
The Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory has appointed Thomas Palmieri chief financial officer and director of the Business Operations Division. Palmieri is currently deputy chief financial officer at DOE, a $19 B agency that administers programs in defense and national security, basic science and research, energy supply and demand, and environmental protection and cleanup.
Joe Mueller, R&D section manager within Agilent's Technology Center, has been elected president of the Interchangeable Virtual Instruments (IVI) Foundation. Mueller has over 20 years of experience and has played a key role in contributions to the field of computer-aided test and instrument connectivity.
Marconi Applied Technologies has appointed Tom Coduto executive VP, business development, the Americas. This post has been created to strengthen the strategic development of the company's growing high tech component in the North American marketplace. Additionally, Coduto will be responsible for developing commercial business plans for all the company's products in Central and South America.
