mmWave Ray-Tracing Simulation with Diffuse Scattering in an Office Environment - Tuesday, October 10 5:30 p.m.
Remcom’s Wireless InSite propagation analysis and ray tracing tool is able to consider the effects of diffuse scattering off of structures. Remcom has implemented the Degli-Esposti model with extended phase terms. The tool allows for the Lambertian, Directive and Directive with Backscatter diffuse scattering models. The roughness of the structure facet is taken into account in the scattering factor of each of the types of scattering methods.
Traditionally, 3D EM ray tracing algorithms trace from the Tx to the Rx and interact with the environment. Remcom’s implementation traces rays from the diffuse scatter enabled surface to both the transmitter and the receiver. This diffuse scattering can occur at any point the interaction chain. Along with this, scattered power and diffuse power are individually presented to calculate the total power of the paths.
In this presentation, an example showcasing this novel technique is applied to an office environment at 73 GHz and is compared against measurements. The effect of diffuse scattering can clearly be seen on the cross polarized components.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Simulation and Prediction for RF Devices - Wednesday, October 11 3:30 p.m.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing is utilized worldwide by electronics manufactures and includes the use of numerous standards from organizations including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), JEDEC and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), among others. ESD testing requires the use of many hardware prototypes, which is time consuming and expensive. The ability to simulate the ESD testing process and pinpoint locations in wireless devices susceptible to ESD damage would be extremely valuable and allow engineers to reduce the number of prototypes required to design products for minimal ESD damage.
This presentation will demonstrate a new multiphysics-based ESD analysis capability which allows the ESD testing process to be analyzed via computer simulation. This will save companies time and money by allowing ESD protection to be optimized during the design phase, thus reducing the number of prototypes required to be built and tested.
Simulation of Beamforming using FD-MIMO for LTE-Advanced Pro in an Urban Small Cell - Thursday, October 12 11:30 a.m.
This paper presents a new predictive tool for simulating Full Dimension Multiple Input, Multiple Output (FD-MIMO) in urban environments. With 3GPP expanding the potential transmit antennas for LTE-Advanced Pro eventually to as many as 64, detailed modeling of the channel characteristics is becoming increasingly complex.
This presentation will demonstrate an innovative new simulation capability that uses three-dimensional ray-tracing to fully-characterize channels, with significant optimizations to limit the additional computation required to predict the channel matrices for base stations using FD-MIMO. Remcom will use results from simulations to evaluate a hypothetical small cell base station employing FD-MIMO for cases using different numbers of transmit antennas. The company will then analyze predicted multipath in the environment and compare performance of beamforming techniques for each of the simulated cases.
