Taoglas announced that Lighthouse has incorporated Taoglas antennas to connect its next-generation intelligent home security and monitoring device. The Lighthouse interactive assistant utilizes Taoglas’ FXP830 Freedom antenna to provide the performance it needs in a form factor that works with Lighthouse’s aesthetically pleasing design.

The Lighthouse product is a Wi-Fi interactive assistant featuring a next-generation, state-of-the-art camera and sensing platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The Lighthouse service captures and interprets actions through the device, then utilizes a cloud-based intelligent platform to provide the owner with always-on, real-time awareness of what’s happening inside the home.

Taoglas’ FXP830 Freedom antenna is a high-efficiency, dual-band, dipole antenna for 2.4 and 4.9 to 6 GHz band, supporting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The patent-pending antenna is ideal for squeezing into narrow spaces while maintaining high performance. The Freedom antenna is unique in the market because it is made from poly-flexible material and has double-sided 3M tape for easy “peel and stick” mounting.

"Reliable connectivity to Wi-Fi within the home is a critical factor in the success of the Lighthouse product, and Lighthouse needed an antenna that could fit in 'just the right spot' of the device," said Zach Brand, director of hardware at Lighthouse, “but also provide the ability to connect to the home’s Wi-Fi access point robustly and at a good range. Because the Lighthouse system relies on always-on connectivity, we needed very high performance antennas. By using the Taoglas Freedom antennas, we ensure that we have an excellent antenna to minimize data and signal loss. It’s a world-class antenna for a world-class product.”

Because Lighthouse is a product designed for every home, Brand said that ease of installation and provisioning was critical. “People need to be able to place Lighthouse where it can see the important events in their home—no matter where their Wi-Fi access point is—and just have it always connect,” Brand said. “Our users need that level of trust that the system will work all the time, everywhere in the home. The Taoglas antenna helps us bring that level of certainty to our customers.”

Lighthouse also needed custom cable lengths to connect the antennas, and Taoglas was able to quickly supply those using its Cable Wizard, its quick-turn custom cable and antenna assembly operation through its purpose-built, 16,000-foot facility in San Diego.

“Lighthouse is bringing the next generation of home intelligence to the market, and needed a high-performance, small form factor antenna to deliver always-on connectivity,” said Dermot O’Shea, co-CEO of Taoglas. “Taoglas, via its advanced antenna designs, is proud to be enabling such a forward-looking company with the expertise and resources to bring this product to market.”
