Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) and Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) have collaborated on a low phase noise timing solution for telecommunications and data center applications. IDT's new 8V19N474 jitter attenuator and frequency synthesizer, coupled with Epson's VG-4513 high performance voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO), provide best-in-class phase noise performance for demanding applications such as 40/100/400 Gbps Ethernet timing. For wired communications, the IDT-Epson solution meets physical layer specifications for phase noise, bit error rate and signal-to-noise ratio without external filtering.

Epson's VG-4513 VCXO uses a high-frequency fundamental (HFF) crystal to achieve very low close-in phase noise, and IDT’s 8V19N474 includes an integrated VCO that provides exceptional phase noise at higher offset frequencies. The 8V19N474 jitter attenuator and frequency synthesizer has an RMS phase noise of 75 fs, which offers ample timing margin for the clocking requirements of Ethernet interfaces using 56G PAM4 (Tx) PHYs, as well as OTN (OTU3, OTU4), ADC/DAC converters, cable TV head-end and DOCSIS 3.1 applications.

The 8V19N474 offers a wide output frequency range from 25 MHz to 2.5 GHz, including 125 and 156.25 MHz and LVDS and LVPECL outputs with adjustable amplitudes. The synthesizer provides up to 12 reference clock signals and multiple high performance synchronized clocks. The integrated low drop-out regulator saves on the BOM by allowing an economical and inexpensive DC/DC voltage supply to be used.

Both products are available now. IDT's 8V19N474 is packaged in an 8 x 8 mm 81-CABGA package. Epson's VG-4513 comes in a 7 x 5 x 1.6 mm or a 5 x 3.2 x 1.3 mm ceramic package.
