Kicking off the 4th Quarter
Well the bad news is that summer is unofficially over. The good news is that the NFL season is now upon us, and Peter King predicts a New England Patriots Super Bowl victory in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated. GO PATS!
If I may take further liberty with the football parlance, it’s the fourth quarter for the MWJ team, as we wrap up the final details for our October, November and December print issues and digital offerings. The October issue is focused on “Government and Military Electronics” with bonus distribution at FIVE events, including MILCOM (San Diego, CA), Asia Pacific Microwave Conference (Seoul, Korea), IEEE COMCAS (Tel Aviv, Israel), IEEE Phased Array (Boston, MA) and IEEE Compound Semiconductor (Monterey, CA). That’s a lot of bonus distribution, and MWJ will be in attendance at all of them. The deadline to book ad space is September 13th, with ad material due by September 16th. Check the ad bulletin for additional information.
Speaking of events, MWJ will be out in force as usual at the annual European Microwave Week event in Nuremberg, Germany (October 7-10). If you plan to attend, be sure to include the “Defence & Security Forum” on your schedule. This special event has expanded to one and a half days and has attracted a larger audience each year. MWJ will again be featuring the EuMW “Online Show Daily”, highlighting the news, new product launches and special events to be on display during the week. Contact your sales rep for available dates and rates.
We’re working on several new initiatives to be launched later this year and the beginning of next year. We’ll be introducing a “Classified Section” to our website, where you can post goods for sale, recruitment ads and search for reps and distributors. We’ll be charging a nominal fee for postings beginning in January, but you can post items now and through the end of the year at no charge (your gift from me for actually reading this article). If you’re interested, ask your sales rep how you can take advantage of this opportunity.
Another new feature that I’m excited about is our “Augmented Reality” issue, to debut in the January edition. This relatively new technology allows print ads to come to life, allowing readers to view video and other rich media from select ads and editorial features. We’ll be talking about this quite a bit in the next few months, so stay tuned.
In November, we’ll be publishing the annual “Mobile Communications” supplement, which is mailed to the full 50,000 circulation, along with the November issue, and will be distributed at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This show has become the “Super Bowl” of events in the mobile communications sector, and the supplement is a great way to get your company’s message in front of this huge audience.
We’re currently working on the 2014 “Editorial Calendar” and media kit, so if you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know. And if you have any advice for me on my weekly football pool, please send ASAP. I could use the help.
