M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a provider of wireless radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter-wave components, announced the MASW-007107, a new DC to 8 GHz SPDT RoHS compliant switch for applications that require low insertion loss and fast settling times over a wide frequency range in an ultra small size.

“A critical specification among many linear systems is a ultra fast settling speed in both the receive and transmit path,” said Kevin Harrington, product manager, Integrated Circuits Products Group, M/A-COM Inc. “The switching time that is required from the software/baseband to the output power at the antenna can vary from application to application. We have recognized this attribute and with this new product we can achieve 100 percent settled state within 10 μS, whereas similar GaAs switches that do not take this into account typically need closer to 100 μS to 200 μS to completely settle.”

In many linear systems such as WiMAX, multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) and ultra wide band, linear benchmarks are critical for superior system performance. The MASW-007107 is ideal for systems that require up to 27 dBm of output power (5 V operation) with EVM < 2 percent for an OFDM, 64 QAM, 54 Mbps signal. The associated linear output power at 3.3 V is 21 dBm.

M/A-COM’s MASW-007107 is fabricated on a low-cost 0.5-micron gate-length GaAs process with full passivation added for robust reliability while maintaining a low insertion loss of 0.5 dB up to 6 GHz and 0.7 dB up to 8 GHz, while limiting the isolation to 30 dB. All of this is achieved in a miniature 2 mm 8 lead power quad flat leadless (PQFN) package. Each MASW-007107 switch is 100 percent RF tested to ensure performance compliance, similar to many M/A-COM switch offerings.

The MASW-007107 is available from stock and is priced at $0.31 for quantities of 10,000.
