I'm writing this while drinking a Starbucks coffee in downtown Seattle. Fittingly, it's cold and rainy, but the coffee is good. I'm on a reconnaissance mission for the annual IMS event, having not had the pleasure to visit this fine city since the last time we all gathered for this event in the Pacific Northwest. The Convention Center is well located in the heart of downtown, with an excellent assortment of restaurants and bars, and the waterfront is a short and pleasant walk away. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and drier come June.

Before we gear up for IMS, we’ve got several other major events on our radar. MWJ Editors Richard Mumford and Pat Hindle will be roaming the halls of the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona. If you plan to exhibit or attend this mega-mobile event, you may want to schedule a briefing with them. In March, we’ll be in Beijing, China, hosting the new EDI CON event. If your company has a presence in China or you plan to be there yourself, we welcome you to join us for this inaugural event. The Satellite 2013 show follows the week after that, then WAMICON in April and CTIA in May. Microwave Journal is once again organizing the “RF/microwave Pavilion” at CTIA, providing exhibitors with an opportunity to showcase their products to an audience of more than 30,000 in a focused pavilion within the exhibition floor. There are still a few booths left if you’re interested in participating. It’s going to be a busy first half of the year, as we navigate these global industry events.

In the near-term, we’re busy preparing three March issues of MWJ. The regular March issue is the always popular “Test & Measurement” issue, featuring the latest advances in hardware and software. Accompanying this issue will be the annual “Cables & Connectors” supplement, showcasing the latest interconnect developments. The supplement gets bonus distribution at several shows, including WAMICON, CTIA and IMS. The third issue is the March/April edition of MWJ China, which will serve as the show issue for EDI CON. MWJ China has been growing steadily, and this issue will be our largest yet, with bonus distribution at electronic China (Shanghai) and EMC China (Beijing) in addition to EDI CON.  We’ve seen a steadily growing interest in webinars from our clients, so we’ve increased our stable of presenters for 2013. I’m pleased to announce the addition of internationally renowned experts including Eli Brookner (Radar), John McNeill (VCOs), Liam Devlin (Switches and Phase Shifters), Barry Trimmer (Amplifiers) and Henry Lau (PCB Design). These gentlemen join the experts from Besser Associates, Strategy Analytics and others who have shared their knowledge on various topics for the past several years. Sponsors of these webinars benefit from tremendous branding and lead-generation, with audiences ranging from several hundred to more than a thousand per event. Again, your sales rep can provide you with more details including abstracts and scheduled dates.

We’re working on several enhancements to our website, including an RFQ function for our Buyer’s Guide Vendor Views. Watch for these new features later this month. You may also have noticed some rich media banners on our site lately, as a few of our clients are utilizing these new formats to great effect. We’ll be announcing a new email format shortly as well, so stay tuned.

It’s an exciting year ahead and we look forward to working with you once again and to seeing you at one or more of the upcoming events. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments.
