Pronghorn Solutions, a low cost high performance instrument company announces the PHS – 5000 family of fast tuning USB controlled microwave frequency synthesizers.

The PHS – 5000 family is designed for incorporation in automatic test equipment where configurability and cost of ownership are important parameters. However, its USB interface and Windows XPR and Windows 7R compatible software allows it to be used as a laboratory or production test instrument with equal ease. The synthesizer family covers the frequency range of 50 MHz to 18 GHz, including a full frequency range model tunable from 50 MHz to 18 GHz. Many lower frequency range options are available. The unit is USB programmable and will be available with an IVI compatible programming interface and GUI.

The PHS – 5000 can be specified either with a built in crystal reference or to operate with an external 10 MHz reference. The phase noise is –110 dBc / Hz at a 100 KHz offset at 2.5 GHz. Operating modes include CW, digital frequency sweep and digital power sweep with programmable dwell times and number of sweeps, and manual frequency and power stepping.

The attractiveness of the PHS - 5000 family for systems designers arises from their low power consumption, typically 4 to 8 Watts, their ability to be operated from a single 8.4 Volt power supply, their small size, 3.8” X 6.2” X 0.80”, and weight of less than 1 lb. More information is available at www.pronghorn-solutions.com. Price and availability depends upon frequency and power options, starting at $3.2K.
