The EDI CON 2013 organizers announce that executives from China Mobile Research Institute (CMRI), ZTE and the Beijing Institute of Radio Metrology and Measurements (BIRMM) will take part in the plenary session of the opening day program, presenting their respective emphasis on the system requirements driving high-frequency electronic design trends in China.

"As a unique event developed by the international RF/microwave and high-speed digital design industry to support Chinese engineers, EDI CON will provide a range of perspectives on the goals and challenges that define the industry, from component design and underlying measurements and simulation technology, through system-level integration”, said EDI CON 2013 Honorary Chair, Dr. Junde Song of Beijing University Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), “This selection of speakers reflects the conference’s emphasis on indigenous innovation in circuit design, measurement/modeling and system integration as these activities relate to Mobile backhaul, small cell infrastructure, TD-LTE, carrier aggregation, MIMO, air-traffic control radar, etc.”

Mr. Deng Jie, General Manager of ZTE Microwave Products Group will discuss the mobile backhaul microwave radio market and his company’s R&D efforts in China. ZTE contributes greatly to the rapid growth of China's telecomm industry and is now starting to reproduce its success in the commercial microwave radio market. With the fast deployment of 3G and LTE technology, the microwave radio market is growing steadily and has reached 50 Billion RMB Yuan in revenue. By developing and manufacturing microwave radio product, ZTE Microwave has created great opportunities for domestic and international microwave suppliers to grow their business in China. Mr. Deng will discuss how ZTE Microwave has generated strong demand and is fueling the growth of the entire microwave supply chain in China, from IC and passive components to radio subsystem, from microwave accessories to test and measurement equipment.

Dr. Liu Guangyi is Chief Researcher with CMRI and has recently served as special session Chair (Beyond IMT-Advanced) at the 2012 International Conference on Communications, Mobility and Computing as well as Chair for the International ICST Workshop on Broadband MIMO Channel Measurement and Modeling.  As Chief Researcher for China’s largest mobile operator, Dr. Liu leads multiple efforts designed to offer superior service to his company’s mobile wireless customers and improve cell coverage utilizing a variety of cell types and sizes (macro, pico, femto) across China Mobile’s heterogeneous network (HetNet).  As the former Chair for the ICST workshop on Broadband MIMO Channel Measurement and Modeling, Dr. Liu is well-versed in MIMO antenna techniques for increased data throughput in the uplink and downlink and is able to offer an operator perspective concerning many of the topics being discussed in the technical sessions, such as MIMO OTA and carrier aggregation. Dr. Liu will talk about CMRI’s pioneering programs, its future product roadmap and its current leadership in small cells where the Beijing team is working to accelerate the field trials of TD-LTE small cell systems across the China Mobile Communications Corporation’s (CMCC’s) network in China.

Mr. Feng Keming, Director of BIRMM, will talk about the state of metrology and RF, microwave and THz measurement technology in one of China’s leading metrology labs. The BIRMM, which provides services that include calibration of radio, time & frequency and electricity, metrological certification, metrological arbitration, precision measurement, instrument acceptance test, commodity inspection and metrological guarantee, also designs and manufactures many kinds of crystal resonators, crystal filters, crystal oscillators, coaxial connectors and coaxial and waveguide devices. Such measurement and design expertise has been put to use in highly precise microwave timing solutions. Mr. Feng will share data on the latest performance of an on-board rubidium atomic clock developed by his research engineers for the Compass-2(BD-2). The Compass system (also known as Beidou-2, BD2) is a project by China to develop an independent global satellite navigation system. Over the last several years, researchers have made considerable progress in the accuracy of small size atomic clocks designed and produced in China. Mr. Feng will also discuss his institute’s research on ultrafast optoelectronic technology for terahertz metrology, electronic measurement, studies and designs metrology standards, specialized testing equipment and a series of automatic testing systems.
