Strategy Analytics, a global research and consulting company, released "Capitalizing on WiMAX: The Market for WiMAX Radio Chips," a report from its RF and Wireless Components Service. The report examines the growth of WiMAX and opportunities for WiMAX radio components.

The report investigates the potential for WiMAX in terms of services, applications, competitive dynamics and regional adoption, and outlines the likely growth of subscribers, equipment and component shipments. Additionally, this report examines component ASPs and the market for WiMAX power amplifiers, transceivers and basebands in infrastructure and customer premise equipment.

"Now that certification of WiMAX equipment has started and coverage areas have begun to expand beyond basic trials, WiMAX equipment suppliers and chip makers face a much less uncertain future. Even so, most remain cautious," said Stephen Entwistle, vice president of the Strategic Technologies Practice at Strategy Analytics. Chris Taylor, director of the RF and Wireless Components Service, added, "This caution is justified. In spite of the progress of WiMAX, equipment shipments will not reach tens of millions of units per year until after 2010, which will make recovery of product development costs problematic for many in the already large base of component suppliers."
