The US Army Aviation and Missile Command has awarded Raytheon Co. a $127 M contract for the US Army and US Marine Corps Surface Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SLAMRAAM) System. Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems will lead Team SLAMRAAM to develop, fabricate, integrate and test the SLAMRAAM system. The system comprises the joint service AMRAAM missile mounted on a high mobility multiwheeled vehicle; a new Integrated Fire Control Station (IFCS), which is netted to the Army already-fielded Sentinel radar; the Army’s future Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System and the Marine Corps’ future Multi-role Radar System.
The US Army has joined with the US Marine Corps Complementary Low Altitude Weapons systems and the Common Aviation Command and Control System programs to develop a joint, common launcher and a common command and control capability. Evolved from the Raytheon developed Fire Distribution Center, fielded in multiple NATO countries for more than 10 years, and using “pit-stop” technology developed on the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System, the IFCS will form the base line for the US Army’s Air and Missile Defense Block 0 Common Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence. Featuring extensive open system architecture, the SLAMRAAM IFCS will enable netted and distributed operations in support of the Army’s Future Force and is postured to evolve as technology and advanced capabilities mature. The Raytheon-led Team SLAMRAAM is composed of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace in Norway; the Boeing Co.; Quantum Research International; Madison Research Corp. and the US Army’s Space and Missile Defense Battle Lab. Work on the SLAMRAAM mission equipment will be performed at Team SLAMRAAM facilities in Huntsville, AL, and New England.
