Sirific Wireless Ltd., an innovator of single-chip CMOS RF transceivers for multi-mode wireless applications, announced the launch of its operations in Korea. The new office will house sales and applications engineering teams to provide immediate support for domestic handset manufacturers and multinational OEMs with offices in Korea.

Analyst reports show worldwide handset shipments reached 800 million units in 2005 with 25 percent of that attributed to Korea-based OEMs and ODMs. The launch of Sirific's Korea operations highlights the company's commitment to Korean handset manufacturers who will play a prominent and strategic role in Sirific's growth in the global mobile phone market.

Sirific is a pioneer in the development and enabling of 3.5G, multi-mode, multi-band RF solutions for mobile devices. The company recently debuted its Nexus™ III family of 3.5G single-chip CMOS RF transceivers, the SW3200 and SW3210. The SW3200 is a single-chip CMOS, multi-band HEDGE (HSDPA/WCDMA/EDGE) RF transceiver that supports downlink data rates up to 10.2 Mbps with high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) Category 9 operation. The SW3210 is highly integrated single-chip CMOS HEDGE RF transceiver that implements true multi-band HSDPA Category 9 receive diversity. With two distinct WCDMA receive paths, the SW3210 enables true diversity operation that enhances HSDPA performance. The advanced CMOS radio architectures, coupled with the application of innovative digital 130-nm CMOS design techniques, allow the SW3210 to enable a complete radio solution with an RF PCB area that is only 6.1 cm2 and an RF bill of materials less than 172 components.

"Establishing a local presence in Korea allows us to provide superior technical support to OEMs, particularly those that work with shortened product development cycles and require quick responses from their critical suppliers," said Michael J. Hogan, president and CEO of Sirific. "Korea offers Sirific an excellent opportunity to enable OEMs and ODMs with leading edge 3.5G RF solutions for next-generation handsets, laptops, PDAs and data cards. As world leaders in advanced communications technology deployment, our customers will drive the adoption of 3.5G multi-mode, multi-band transceivers on a global scale."
