New Low Noise, High Linearity Converters Cover Applications from 5.6 to 24 GHz

Chelmsford, MA, – January 31. 2011 – Hittite Microwave Corporation, the world class supplier of complete MMIC based solutions for communication & military markets has introduced three new SMT packaged I/Q Downconverter/Receivers which are ideal for point-to-point radio, military EW/ECM and satellite communications applications from 5.6 to 24 GHz.

The HMC951LP4E, HMC966LP4E and HMC967LP4E are GaAs MMIC I/Q Downconverter/Receivers, each comprised of an LNA followed by an image reject mixer, which is driven by an LO buffer amplifier. The HMC951LP4E covers RF frequencies from 5.6 to 8.6 GHz while the HMC966LP4E and HMC967LP4E cover 17 to 20 GHz and 21 to 24 GHz respectively. Conversion gain for these three I/Q Downconverters ranges between 13 and 15 dB, with noise figure values as low as 2.3 dB.

The I/Q mixer topology used in the HMC951LP4E, HMC966LP4E and the HMC967LP4E delivers image rejection performance as low as -40 dBc while eliminating the need for a filter following the LNA and removing thermal noise at the image frequency. These highly integrated converters provide I and Q mixer outputs and an external 90° hybrid can be used to select the desired IF sideband. The HMC951LP4E, HMC966LP4E and HMC967LP4E MMIC based converters are housed in 4 x 4 mm plastic QFN SMT packages and are much more compact alternatives to hybrid and MIC (Microwave Integrated Circuit) style image reject downconverter assemblies.

Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company's e-commerce site or via direct purchase order. Released data sheets are available on-line by clicking the link below our logo on this page.
