Octave Tuning Bandwidth and Low SSB Phase Noise

Chelmsford, MA, October 29, 2010 - Hittite Microwave Corporation, the world class supplier of complete MMIC based solutions for communication & military markets, has introduced two new SMT packaged MMIC Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) which are ideal for Industrial/Medical Test & Measurement Equipment, Military Communications, EW, and ECM applications from 6 to 20 GHz.

The HMC732LC4B and HMC733LC4B are Wideband GaAs InGaP HBT MMIC Voltage Controlled Oscillators which incorporate the resonator, negative resistance device, and varactor diode. These fully integrated MMIC VCOs provide output tuning ranges of 6 to 12 GHz, and 10 to 20 GHz, respectively. The HMC732LC4B delivers high output power of +1 dBm and low SSB Phase Noise of -95 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, while the HMC733LC4B delivers output power of +3 dBm and SSB Phase Noise of -90 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset from the carrier.

The Vtune ports of the HMC732LC4B and HMC733LC4B accept an analog tuning voltage from 0 to +23 volts, and accommodate a very fast 65 MHz tuning bandwidth. The HMC732LC4B and HMC733LC4B operate from a single +5 V supply and consume 57 to 70 mA of current. These wideband MMIC VCOs exhibit excellent microphonic immunity due to their monolithic design, and they uniquely combine the attributes of ultra small size, low phase noise, low power consumption, and wide tuning range.

The HMC732LC4B and the HMC733LC4B are housed in footprint compatible, RoHS compliant 4x4 mm SMT packages which requires up to 85% less PC board area than some hybrid based VCO solutions. Furthermore, the HMC732LC4B is offered at a very attractive price point of only $60.96 each at 1000 pcs.

Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company’s e-commerce site or via direct purchase order. Released data sheets are available on-line by clicking the link below our logo on this page.
