LOWELL, Mass., May 17, 2006 - M/A-COM, Inc., a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a worldwide leader of critical radio communication systems, today announced the VIDAMAX System to deliver integrated, public safety-grade wireless broadband video and data services for mission-critical applications. VIDAMAX will enable public safety organizations to deploy high-quality broadband applications such as video surveillance and vehicle access support. VIDAMAX is M/A-COM's newest air interface component to take advantage of the powerful M/A-COM VIDA IP Network. The VIDAMAX system applies the open standard IEEE-based wireless broadband communications protocol of 802.16 to the 4.9GHz band, which has been designated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) exclusively for public safety use. Through the use of the 802.16 protocol and the use of a licensed band, the VIDAMAX system provides a unique set of features, including guaranteed quality of service and scalable capacity, which are required for true mission critical broadband applications. The VIDAMAX system allows for seamless integration with M/A-COM's VIDA platform, thus allowing for future equipment interchangeability and seamless integration with other IP-based networks. In order to support public safety requirements for privacy and security, the VIDAMAX system includes built-in X.509 certificate authentication, Data Encryption Standard (DES), 3-DES and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. "VIDAMAX is the latest major component of M/A-COM's complete IP-based VIDA Network platform, which is an extremely comprehensive solution for unifying every aspect of public safety communications, including voice, data and video applications on a single IP-based network," said Craig Moore, product manager, M/A-COM Wireless Systems. "By applying the 802.16 wireless protocol to the 4.9GHz band, the M/A-COM VIDAMAX system is the only truly open standards based, public safety grade broadband solution available in the market today." "The VIDAMAX architecture gives customers two unique capabilities: a frequency-planned and scalable broadband network; plus guaranteed capacity and quality of service," said Greg Henderson, product development manager for VIDAMAX. "With VIDAMAX public safety users can implement public safety grade applications, such as wireless remote video surveillance, and users will have confidence that the network has both the capability and capacity to guarantee the availability and delivery of critical services, regardless of network loading." M/A-COM is a principal member of the WiMAX Forumtm which is engaged in the creation of interoperability/certification profiles for 802.16 equipment to allow for true equipment interchangeability among multiple vendors' equipment.
