A contract worth €12 M has been awarded to Alcatel to provide the Tunisian broadcasting offices (ONT) with a national digital microwave network that will facilitate the future development of terrestrial digital television channels in the country. The project covers the supply of the network, composed of forty digital stations with large capacity spread out across the entire Tunisian territory. This network will ensure the broadcasting of digital television and radio programmes between the production studios and the broadcasting centres. Its advanced management system will allow ONT to remotely and flexibly control these centres.

Alcatel is responsible for the turnkey supply of the entire network, including systems integration, installation, commissioning, acceptance testing and project management. The techniques used, particularly video coding and compression, MPEG audio, multiplexing and SDH transmission, will optimize the frequency spectrum and will significantly reduce the operation and maintenance costs.
