CTIA Wireless 2011— Rohde & Schwarz today announced a joint demonstration with InterDigital, a leading provider of advanced wireless technologies. The demonstration features carrier aggregation to improve overall throughput and cell edge performance. The demonstration will be held at Rohde & Schwarz booth#2814.

Globally about twenty LTE networks are “on air”, using different frequency bands and bandwidths. LTE as of 3GPP Release 8 has become a reality. Release 9 of the standard provides some minor corrections and a few additional features. Release 10, commonly called LTE-Advanced, has now shifted the focus of standardization towards the future, looking into real enhancements for LTE. One of the key features for LTE-Advanced is carrier aggregation, the subject of this joint demonstration.

“This joint demonstration with InterDigital on dual-carrier aggregation shows that test solutions from Rohde & Schwarz are future proof and already being used to verify LTE-Advanced functionality,” said Wolfgang Kernchen, director of subdivision signal generators and power meters at Rohde & Schwarz. “We are working hard to keep up with the latest changes in the standards to provide turnkey solutions to our partners and customers, not only for LTE-Advanced but also beyond.”

The demonstration showcases InterDigital’s Fuzzy Cells technology leveraging Rohde & Schwarz R&S®AMU200A Baseband Signal Generator and Fading Simulator for verification and validation. The units from Rohde & Schwarz aggregate two downlink carriers with a bandwidth of 20 MHz each, feeding analog IQ signals into InterDigital’s UE reference design. The demonstration illustrates that Fuzzy Cells technology is a high performance, low complexity and robust scheme that mitigates cell-edge problems and improves user experience and overall system performance.
