Ft. Lauderdale, FL, July 27, 2010 — Rohde & Schwarz is demonstrating its broad range of instruments designed for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurement in Booth 304 at the IEEE EMC Society International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (ISEMC) here this week. Attendees will be able to familiarize themselves with Rohde & Schwarz EMI receivers, complete benchtop full-compliance and precompliance systems, as well as the new R&S® RTO Series of oscilloscopes just introduced by Rohde & Schwarz last month.

The product demonstrations include:
R&S® ESU -- The New Standard in EMI Receivers: The R&S® ESU is a family of CISPR16-1-1-compliant EMI test receivers (20 Hz to 8, 26.5, or 40 GHz) that meet all civil and military standards for electromagnetic interference measurements. They optionally use an FFT-based time-domain scan so users can perform overview measurements up to 150 times faster than with previous EMI test receivers. The instruments feature automatic and interactive measurement functions and real-time IF analysis and parallel detectors, including the new CISPR-RMS detector. Fast time-domain analysis provides resolution from to 10 µs and a monitoring time of more than 2 h.

R&S® ESL -- Versatility in Benchtop EMI Testing: The R&S® ESL Series is the first in its class to combine an EMI test receiver and spectrum analyzer in a single instrument. The R&S® ESL6 (which will be demonstrated at ISEMC) covers 9 kHz to 6 GHz and the R&S® ESL3 covers 9 kHz to 3 GHz. Both incorporate all major functions desired in an advanced EMI test receiver, including automated test sequences, weighting detectors for max./min. peak, average, RMS, quasi-peak, average with meter time constant, and RMS-average. The compact, lightweight instrument can be battery-powered for mobile applications.

R&S® ESCI7 – Optimum Performance for Commercial EMI Testing: The R&S® ESCI7 is a standards-compliant measuring receiver for EMC certification measurements in accordance with CISPR 16-1-1 from 9 kHz to 7 GHz. It can also function as a full-featured spectrum analyzer for laboratory applications. The instrument has a selectable 20-dB preamplifier and graphically presents the disturbance level and emission spectrum around the receive frequency. Time-domain analysis allows evaluation of the timing behavior of disturbances. Its 7 GHz upper frequency makes this receiver ideal for all commercial standards.

R&S® ESPI –Comprehensive Features for Precompliance Testing: The R&S® ESPI test receiver brings features found in Rohde & Schwarz full-compliance EMI test receivers to precompliance measurements. It is available as the R&S® ESPI3 (9 kHz to 3 GHz) and R&S® ESPI7 (9 kHz to 7 GHz), and is designed for EMI diagnostic measurements in development, production, quality assurance, service, and maintenance. It has measurement uncertainty of less than 1.5 dB, preselection filters and optional integrated 20 dB preamplifier, and measurement speed of 100 µs.

R&S® BBA100 -- Versatile RF Power Amplifier: This modular broadband amplifier delivers up to 500 W from 9 kHz to 1 GHz and can tolerate a 100% impedance mismatch for rugged reliability. Its compact footprint consumes only a 5 HU 19-in. rack space, and the amplifier handles amplitude, frequency, phase, and pulse modulation. A comprehensive controller commands the RF paths, switches the input switch, preamplifier, and power amplifier, and monitors the system. The amplifier will be demonstrated with the R&S® SMC100A analog signal generator that was designed specifically for EMC applications.

R&S® RTO and RTM -- The Future of Oscilloscopes: The R&S® RTO and the RTM are the first oscilloscopes offered by Rohde Schwarz and were introduced in June. They feature the highest active signal acquisition rate on the market, the first real-time digital trigger system, and intuitive touch-screen operation. The R&S® RTO Series (which will be demonstrated at ISEMC) makes finding signal faults easy, with 1 million waveforms per second and hardware-accelerated performance for high measurement speed even when performing complex analysis. Operation is simplified through color-coded control elements, signal icons with drag-and-drop functionality, and measurement signals that are always fully visible via semitransparent dialog boxes.

R&S® SMB100A – Superior Signal Generation and Power Measurement: The versatile R&S® SMB100A has a wide range of features, covers 9 kHz to 6 GHz, and delivers industry-leading spectral performance, making it an excellent choice for EMC applications. The instrument has an RF output level up to +25 dBm, produces AM, FM, PM, and pulse modulation, and an LF generator creates sine wave signals up to 1 MHz and square wave signals to 20 kHz. Spectral performance includes phase noise of –128 dBc (20 kHz carrier offset, 1 GHz carrier frequency), nonharmonic suppression of –85 dBc, wideband noise of –152 dBc, and harmonic suppression of –30 dBc. The instrument also allows on-site servicing thanks to a modular design with only four exchangeable modules. The R&S® SMB100A will be demonstrated with the R&S® NRP-Z91 average power sensor designed specifically for EMC applications.
