The Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC), a major international, industry-wide consortium, has been announced, combining the technology and expertise of 27 major companies to recommend a unified approach to creating a global network centric environment.

The NCOIC was created in response to customer requests that industry assume a more prominent role in achieving network centric capability. The charter of the NCOIC is claimed to make it complementary to, not competitive with, those other consortia, industry associations, and government bodies that are also working toward the same goal of enabling customers to transform to network centric operations. The focus for the members is to collaborate on the details of the basic infrastructure that will enable network centric operations, while still enabling robust and healthy competition across the industry.
