GREENSBORO, N.C., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq GS: RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance semiconductor components, today announced the availability of the RF2815 - a GPS LNA module with integrated filter designed for use in global positioning system (GPS) receivers. The highly integrated RF2815 is optimized for both solution size and performance and is especially suited for battery-powered mobile devices, such as portable navigation devices (PNDs) and GPS-enabled CDMA handsets.

The RF2815 integrates a low noise-figure low noise amplifier (LNA), surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter and supporting components in a compact 3.3 x 2.1 x 1.0 mm, ROHS compliant module. The high-performance LNA module delivers a lower profile and lower external component count than currently available competing solutions, best addressing the shrinking size requirements of today's space-constrained mobile devices. The RF2815 also features an optimal combination of low noise-figure, high gain, high linearity and low power consumption - all critical performance attributes for battery-operated, GPS-enabled mobile devices. Finally, the cellular- and PCS-band rejection characteristics of the integrated SAW filter equip the RF2815 for non-concurrent and simultaneous GPS (S-GPS) operation, both of which are implemented in GPS-enabled CDMA handsets.

"We're particularly excited about the launch of the RF2815," said Paul Augustine, general manager of RFMD's Component Solutions Business Unit. "The majority of today's CDMA handsets incorporate GPS functionality, and location-based services continue to gain in popularity in smart phones and in other mobile devices. The RF2815 is first in a line of innovative new products from RFMD that address this expanding market segment. It leverages our leadership in GaAs pHEMT and packaging technologies and signals our entry into surface acoustic wave filter integration in our front end products."

Technical features of the RF2815 include:
-- Low noise-figure: 0.85 dB typical
-- High gain: 13.5 dB
-- High IIP3: +8 dBm
-- CMOS-compatible shutdown mode
-- Current consumption tunable via a single resistor
-- No need for external DC-blocking capacitors
-- ROHS Compliant

Availability and Pricing
Samples and pre-production quantities of the RF2815 are available immediately, and the RF2815 is priced at $0.70 each in quantities of 10,000 units.
