Update for R&S CMU200 – WB-AMR and new application tests for HSPA
Munich, 07 March 2007 — Whereas entire multimedia worlds have now been integrated into mobile phones, the quality of voice transmission has received less attention in the last period of time. Therefore, network operators and mobile phone manufacturers now want to improve quality by offering wideband adaptive multirate (WB-AMR). A new voice codec ensures a wider bandwidth during voice transmission and thus helps to optimize quality. To offer a reliable solution in terms of WB-AMR tests for both 2G and 3G mobile phones, Rohde & Schwarz has expanded the R&S CMU200 by offering the R&S CMU-K46 option. At the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, innovations in the field of HSPA will also be presented: The established R&S CMU200 is the first compact mobile radio tester with HSUPA functionality for development and production that analyzes HSUPA RF signals in both the non-signaling and the signaling mode. With its free software upgrade for the R&S CMU-K56 option, Rohde & Schwarz is thus providing signaling mode tests in which the R&S CMU200 simulates the base station. Also with respect to data rates, Rohde & Schwarz is again setting standards: In Barcelona, the company will present various application tests with the highest data rates that test mobile phones are currently able to offer: 7.2 Mbit/s for HSDPA and 2 Mbit/s for HSUPA. In addition to the R&S CMU200's measurement capabilities, the HSPA product portfolio of the Munich-based electronics company includes a wide range of solutions for layer 1 testing, spectrum analysis, signal generation, and protocol testing.
