ORLANDO, FL, MARCH 27, 2007 - (CTIA WIRELESS) - RF Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance radio systems and solutions for applications that drive mobile communications, today announced customer sampling of the RF3161 quad-band EDGE power amplifier module. The RF3161, which leverages RFMD's industry leadership in power amplifiers and large signal polar modulation (LSPM) EDGE transceiver solutions, is designed to support merchant market EDGE transceivers that implement LSPM transmit architectures. The high level of integration of the RF3161, combined with its industry-leading 6x6 mm package, deliver the smallest EDGE power amplifier solution in its class. By limiting the number of external components and eliminating external routing during customer implementation, the RF3161 reduces manufacturers' total bill of materials costs and reduces time to market. Additionally, the RF3161 solution utilizes RFMD's PowerStar® integrated power control architecture to provide state-of-the-art GMSK efficiencies without impacting EDGE performance. "RFMD is focused on reducing handset time to market and lowering total cost of ownership by providing highly integrated, technology-rich power amplifier modules that deliver enhanced system performance and overall ease of use in an industry-leading solution size," said Konrad Alvarino, general manager of RFMD's components business unit. "By leveraging our expertise in cellular systems to reduce RF complexity in EDGE and 3G multimode devices, we are taking RF implementation out of the critical path and solving many of our customers' primary challenges related to next-generation phone launches." Key Features of the RF3161 include: ·Industry-leading 6X6x1 mm package ·Fully integrated solution with limited external components and no external routing ·Optimized for LSPM transmit architectures ·Output power targeted at 3G multimode handset applications RFMD will showcase its industry-leading product portfolio at the CTIA Wireless 2007 show in Orlando, Florida, March 27-29, 2007, in Hall B2, Booth 3251.
