Ericsson has signed its longest technology contract ever with New Zealand Police—an exclusive 21-year supply and support agreement in which the company will provide MINI-LINK microwave radio systems, transmission products and support, to help the police build its own internal nationwide communication network.

The network will provide high speed communications to police radio sites and police stations. Thanks to high capacity radios and smart traffic nodes incorporating the latest technology, the new network will efficiently carry both voice and data traffic on a self-sufficient IP network. This new contract is just a part of the company’s ongoing work with the police that includes the supply of key mobile security software, Ericsson Mobile Corporate Access, which the police will use in its project to turn police cars into mobile police stations.

Richard Harkett, New Zealand police manager, radio stated, “Ericsson was chosen for the deal because of its extensive global expertise, local knowledge and proven performance. Its solutions are reliable and they meet our precise requirements.”
