Executive Profile: Fanny Mlinarsky

At next week’s NI Week in Austin Texas, Executive Fanny Mlinarsky, the founder of Massachusetts-based OctoScope, will present her company’s solution for Over-the-Air wireless testing. Ms. Mlinarsky, who speaks English, French and Russian and holds five patents, brings a powerful combination of in-depth technical knowledge and business acumen to the company she started in 2006.

Her most recent venture, OctoScope is a consulting firm that focuses on architecture, design and promotion of wireless and RF data communications products. Their services include:
 Architect, develop and test RF products
 Evaluate network components and architect networks for optimum performance
 Analyze and test network performance
 Navigate or contribute to industry standards
 Promote and advocate products through published articles, seminars and presentations

Mlinarsy has 26 years of experience in progressively influential technology roles with companies including Agilent and Teradyne, where she has developed hardware and software, managed R&D teams and founded Azimuth Systems, a successful VC funded wireless test equipment company.

In 2001 she founded Azimuth, a leading provider of Wi-Fi, WiMAX and LTE test equipment also based in Massachusetts. While there, she also served as the company's Chief Technology Officer for five years. Before founding Azimuth, she managed the Agilent Handheld Tester business unit formed through the acquisition of Scope Communications. Prior to that, she was VP of Engineering at Scope, where she led the development of the technology that was acquired by HP/Agilent. In 2004, Fanny received a Woman-to-Watch award from Mass High Tech.

Mlinarsky’s talk at NI Week is titled “Over the Air Wireless Test Methods and Metrics” , a theme that the Journal has covered on numerous occasions with contributed articles from a number industry test solution providers (see Masters of MIMO from August 2010). Mlanrsky expands on this topic by discussing how mModern smart phones with cellular, 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS radios cry out for OTA test methods due to a sheer number of connections. In her session she will review OTA test methods and metrics being developed at 3GPP and CTIA and will discuss practical approaches to fast and accurate OTA based production testing.
